Clinique has spoiled us this season! The entire spring-summer makeup collection is super tempting and it was very hard for me to resist buying everything…
I had initially spotted the Cheek Pop blushes but then I realized that the brand had also released matching lipsticks. And of course, I had to try them! wink
The packaging is very appealing (just like the blushes) and totally Instagram-friendly!
I really find that Clinique has a great makeup offer at the moment. They were famous for their makeup products for people with allergies to perfume and/or very sensitive skin. The brand now offers a wide range of makeup with very cool packaging and ultra desirable colors.
In short, there has been quite a facelift on Clinique makeup! And honestly, it’s a good news! smile
Clinique Pop lipsticks, presentation:
What the brand says about them:
A rich, weightless formula that fuses bold, saturated color with a smoothing primer.
This lip color delivers a lightweight formula that lasts for up to eight hours. It glides on effortlessly, creating a modern-velvet finish that keeps lips comfortable while color stays true.
Through a formula enriched with polymers associated with butters Shea and Murmuru, the lips feel immediately hydrated. A bright, shiny color is provided all day.
Declined in a palette of 16 vibrant colors, Clinique Pop colors your lips all day.
This product is allergy tested and 100 percent fragrance-free.
A 2 in 1 lipstick, which smooths and enhances the lips while ensuring a comfortable feeling all day? It almost sounds like the definition of a colored lip balm.
But you’ll see, it’s not really the same thing…
Clinique Pop lipsticks, my thoughts:
I love the packaging!
It’s very compact, very easy to slip into a handbag. I also like the mix between metal engraved and colored plastic, which makes it very “pop” and modern, IMO. Although it’s not absolute luxury, let’s be honest, I find it rather chic and elegant while being pretty cool and simple.
– Innovation and texture:
The brand promises a 2 in 1 lipstick, both primer and makeup, that is supposed to sublimate the lips while giving a flawless makeup result, very long lasting.
Well, I’ll be very honest, I’m not convinced at all about this primer effect… For one of the lipsticks I own, it’s even the opposite. Melon Pop really highlighted all the little dry skin I had when I tried it, it was not pretty and forgiving at all.
In short, for me, it’s a fairly classic creamy lipstick, that’s is all. No primer effect.
No perfume in Clinique makeup products.
I usually apply them straight from the bullet on my lips. The only one I had problems with is still Melon Pop, which was quite patchy on my lips.
The others were all extremely easy to apply.
– Pigmentation and coverage:
The pigmentation of these lipsticks is superb. They’re far from tinted balms! They are real lipsticks with an opaque coverage on the lips.
Again, the only one which wasn’t perfect regarding the coverage was Melon Pop…
– Color range:
With 16 different colors, the choice is wide!
These are mostly pure colors but some of them are slightly iridescent with micro-glitter that make them even more luminous.
I chose 4 shades: Bare Pop, Melon Pop, Plum Pop and Cherry Pop.
Bare Pop is my ideal nude. It’s is a pinkish beige with a golden shimmer. This is exactly how I conceive wearing nudes: my lips but with a better color and shimmer because I love glitter!!! Don’t worry, it’s quite subtle and it’s just the right amount to make this nude color interesting for me! wink
Melon Pop was the color I wanted the most for this summer. This is a very nice peachy nude, perfect for the season, but unfortunately the formula is not as good as the others. If I have dry lips, the result is not really pretty…
Plum Pop is a slightly purple muted pink. Muted because there is also some nude in the color. It’s not at all a bright color which makes it very easy to wear. I love wearing these kind of colors with a smokey along with warm colored eye makeup. And as a bonus, this shade helps bring out my green eyes. wink
Cherry Pop, is my joker color. A cold red that works every time on me. It has that perfect red color: a bright, luminous red. One of those red that wakes your entire face up even if you just only slept 3 hours last night and also makes your teeth look whiter! The satin finish gives it even more brightness. In short, it’s just one of these effective red lipsticks that I love! wink
– Finish and feeling on the lips:
Clinique describes it as a semi-matte finish but for me, it’s a real satin finish rather creamy and luminous. This doesn’t bother me at all but it’s a little inconvenient for those who actually wanted a true semi-matte finish! uneasy
However, an extra point for the moisturizing sensation. The lips feel nourished and stay moisturized throughout the day.
– Lasting power:
Clinique promises a very long-lasting power with these Pop lipsticks but again, I don’t think it’s the case.
They last on my lips for 3-4 hours, which is honorable but not outstanding.
They are sold at the price of $18, which is very affordable for a high-end lipstick IMHO! smile
They’re available on Clinique.com and in the brand’s stores.
Finally, here are the swatches:
And on me:
- Bare Pop:
- Melon Pop:
- Plum Pop:
- Cherry Pop:
- the pretty packaging, very elegant
- the superb range of 16 colors, a wide choice
- the lighter shades are very flattering and the darker ones are ultra luminous (no dull colors in the range)
- the pigmentation and coverage are excellent (except for Melon Pop)
- the very comfortable moisturizing effect
- the beautiful satin finish
- I didn't really feel the primer effect
- Melon Pop is not forgiving at all and highlights dead skin in my lips, the finish is not really uniform
- the lasting power is correct but not super long-lasting as promised
- the finish is not semi-matte at all but more like a satin one (it doesn't bother me, but this is not the promised finish according to the brand)
For me, Clinique Pop is one of those very easy lipsticks, perfect to have with you in your hand-bag for some touch-ups throughout the day (even without a mirror for the lighter shades). It leaves a very comfortable feeling on the lips while sublimating them.
What a pity that Melon Pop is not as good as the in terms of the formula, the color is so lovely…
And you, did you try one (or more) of these Clinique Pop lipstick? What are your favorite colors in the collection?
