The new Hourglass lipstick, the Girl Lip Stylo is supposed to be inspired by women and their endless possibilities in the roles they can adopt. A feminist lipstick, in short.
OK, even if it’s a nice concept, I’m not completely sold on the sincerity of this approach. But regardless, this Girl Lip Stylo is quite promising quality wise!
I must admit that after the disappointing Makeup Geek lipsticks (I definitely don’t like the color range of these), I really enjoyed trying these beautiful nude flattering colors which go with everything!
Because this is exactly how this Girl Lip Stylo was designed. An ideal lipstick for every day. Which doesn’t mean it’s a basic product, certainly not, it’s just a really good lipstick. A beauty ally that makes you feel pretty every day and which also has the good taste to properly treat our lips thanks to the lip care ingredients in its formula.
Here is how Carisa Janes, the founder of the brand Hourglass describes her lipstick Girl Lip Stylo:
” This all-in-one hybrid formula is my go-to, everyday lip color. I can build as much—or as little—color as I like while leaving my lips soft, hydrated and perfectly polished.”
I chose two shades (Activist and Dreamer) in this collection and here are my thoughts:
Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo, presentation:
What the brand says about them:
“The silky, weightless formula blends modern color with luxurious hydration for a lustrous finish.
Features a hydrating blend of shea butter, jojoba, mimosa and sunflower seed to provide moisture and nourish dry lips for a silky, soft finish.
The precision tip allows for easy and precise application throughout the day without the need for sharpening. “
The Girl Lip Stylo are lipsticks in a pencil format. They’re classic stick lipsticks, with a creamy finish. They feel like a lip balm, super comfortable on the lips thanks to the lip care ingredients in their formula. Their pigmentation is quite important for this kind of formula and can vary according to the quantity you apply on the lips.
You can really feel that this lipstick has been designed to be an easy, no-brainer lipstick. Easy to apply thanks to its tapered tip, easy to carry with you and reapply, and which is also very nice to wear because it’s super comfortable.
The concept of the range is pretty cool: every color in the Girl collection has been chosen to inspire women and encourage them to stand up for themselves. Some real girl empowerment here! The names of the shades reflect this state of mind (Creator, Warrior, Visionary, etc. ) and it’s nice to read this kind of words rather than some other names like Trophy Wife or Cougar (don’t you think, Marlena from MUG ? wink )
Well, I obviously suspect it’s pure marketing, and they don’t really mean to change the world with it, but it’s always nice! I must confess that I may have chosen the colors because I like them of course, but their names also counted a little in my decision! wink
There are 20 colors in total, all very flattering and wearable and they retail for $32.
Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo, my test and thoughts:
– Packaging:
A super chic pencil style tube and a lipstick stick with a pencil shape. Very practical and super precise when it’s brand new but I wonder how it will look when I have used it a lot. I’ll try my best to maintain its pencil shape but I’m not sure I can… uneasy
– Texture and feeling on the lips:
It’s a cream texture, super nice to wear. They are comfortable without being too rich, and they leave a moisturizing effect on the lips. They contain lots of nourishing ingredients: shea butter, jojoba, mimosa and sunflower seed. The formula is clearly between a lip care and a lipstick.
– Finish:
It’s a cream/ satin finish. It’s not too shiny, and it’s a flattering finish for the lips.
– Scent:
They have a sweet vanilla scent, nice and not too empowering.
– Pigmentation and opacity:
They’re well pigmented and opaque on the lips. It’s quite surprising because, with their creamy texture, you could expect a sheer result, but it’s not the case! smile
– Color range:
20 colors and they’re all gorgeous! There are a lot of nudes, and some pretty corals, roses, reds. It’s a range of flattering and very wearable colors.
– Application:
I apply them directly to my lips, straight from the bullet. The shape of the bullet is quite precise, you can draw nice contours easily.
– Lasting power:
They last about 4-5 hours on me. An average lasting power for this kind of finish.
I love the fact that they leave the lips very comfortable and that they fade very nicely on the lips throughout the day.
– Value for money:
This is their only con: they’re expensive.
They retail for $32, and the quantity of product is not huge (2.5g while a classic lipstick weight is more 4 or 5g). Of course, Hourglass is a luxury brand, the packaging is stunning exudes quality, the formula is packed with great nourishing ingredients. But still, the quantity for money is not excellent. I don’t think I will buy more of them because of that. I’m very happy with my two very nice colors! wink
Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo, the shades:
– Activist: my fave! It’s a typical “my lips but better” color that goes well with all the looks. It’s a very nice nude pink with a mauve undertone (I know! So unexpected! wink )
– Dreamer: a very pretty and soft peachy pink, with a warm undertone. The color is quite far from my natural lip color, so it gives a nice contrasting effect. I can’t always wear peach shades because they tend to look orange on my lips but Dreamer is quite pink, so it’s easy to wear for me!
Finally, here are the swatches:
And on me:
– Activist:
– Dreamer:
I swear I applied two different colors on my lips! I don’t know why on these photos, the colors look so similar. Obviously, they’re both nude shades, but I swear that in real life, they look different on my lips! wink
In summary:
[wprs-pros][wprs-cons]
I really like this formula. These Girl lipsticks are super nice, flattering, a no-brainer for every day! The fact that they’re nourishing is a plus, and their beautiful packaging is the icing on the cake! smile
The Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo are available on the brand website and sephora.com for $32.

Great review. Thanks ????. Just wish they weren’t so expensive or at least had more than 2.5 g.

Thank you Samantha for your comment! :)
Yeah, I feel you! They’re super nice, but clearly, the price for the quantity is not the best…
