ZOEVA is at it again with a new Rose Golden set… And honestly, I couldn’t miss it!
I loved the first Rose Golden set which allowed me to discover the brand ZOEVA. I’m still a fan of these makeup brushes and when I saw a picture of this new set on Instagram, I knew that I would have to get it urgently. A fully nude and rose gold set of makeup brushes: raaaah, come to me!
Yes, I know, you’re not supposed to buy a product just for its packaging, but hey, I think you know me now. I am weak faced with such enticing arguments. Especially if I know that on top, the included set of brushes are great value for money!
ZOEVA Rose Golden Luxury Complete Eye Set Volume 2, presentation:
This year Zoeva has not released just one single Rose Golden set, but two. One like last year’s, providing a mix of face and eye makeup brushes and the one I just bought here, only for the eyes.
The brushes inside the set allow us to achieve a perfect smokey eye from beginning to end. With this set, you are 100% covered!
The price of the set is $78, which is a bit expensive when you think about it but if you consider the price per brush (6.50 dollars per brushes), it is totally worth it!
The set is composed of a pink pouch in synthetic leather and 12 eye makeup brushes.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m not really a big fan of the pouch. It looks much more cheaper than the one from last year. The metallic pink colour is quite tacky IMO. uneasy
But hey, it can be useful and you still need a pouch to organise things when you’re a makeup addict like me (even if it’s pink and a bit ugly lol).
ZOEVA Rose Golden Luxury Complete Eye Set Volume 2, my thoughts:
The set contains 12 eye makeup brushes:
– the 142 Concealer Buffer*,
– the 325 Luxe Brow Light,
– the 221 Luxe Soft Crease,
– the 228 Luxe Crease,
– the 227 Luxe Soft Definer,
– the 231 Luxe Petit Crease,
– the 235 Contour Shader,
– the 230 Luxe Pencil,
– the 232 Luxe Classic Shader,
– the 238 Luxe Precise Shader,
– the 310 Spot Liner*,
– and the 322 Brow Line*.
The brushes with an asterisk * are with synthetic bristles, the other are with natural bristles.
The natural bristles which ZOEVA use for their makeup brushes come from certified animal farms only. For the selection of the natural bristles, the animals are shaved or brushed, but never harmed.
Here is a detailed presentation of each of them and my impressions. (Feel free to click on each image if you want to see the brushes in big size wink )
The 142 Concealer Buffer:
I already have this brush because it was in the first set but it doesn’t bother me at all to have a second one because I can totally use it for a different purpose!
It’s a brush that is supposed to be used to apply and blend a concealer or a corrector. But I’d rather use it to apply and blend my eyeshadow creams all over the lid. In particular, it’s perfect to use with my MAC Paint Pots. It blends them without any streaks on the eyelids. It’s also very good to correct an eye shadow that would be too all over the place.
In short, a very useful and multi-tasking brush!
The 325 Luxe Brow Light:
Well, this one is not really my cup of tea to be honest.
You can use the 325 to apply a highlight eye shadow under the eyebrows. And I confess that this is something I never do. Usually, I just apply a matte fleshy shade all over the lid and I use it as a highlight shade (because I have chosen a shade lighter than my actual skin color).
I’m not super fan of this trend of highlighting the area below the eyebrows, but anyway…
It’s also quite dense so it tends to apply a lot of product and the effect is quite intense. In short, it’s clearly not a brush that I use a lot. uneasy
The 235 Contour Shader:
This brush with natural bristles is perfect to apply an eyeshadow on the outer corner of the eyes. Its angled shape acts as a guide and helps to put the eyeshadow as a V shape (along the outer corner of the eye and the bone just behind the crease).
I use it mostly when I do more intense makeup, especially with a dark color in the outer corner because it allows a very precise application (which can be blended with a soft blending brush of course, if you want a more natural result ).
The 230 Luxe Pencil:
This pencil brush with natural bristles has two functions: it can be used to apply a shadow along the lash line (higher or lower), but it can also be used to blend an eyeshadow or a liner pencil (for a very “smoked” result).
This is the kind of brush that I use every day, because it’s really convenient and multi-tasking. Also, this is the perfect dupe for the MAC 219 for those who wonder! wink
Yes, this set contains no less than 4 blending brushes! Amazing, isn’t it? wink
The 227 Luxe Soft Definer:
This one too, I already had it in my previous Rose Golden set, but that’s totally fine. This kind of awesome brush, you can never have too much! wink
It’s also a natural bristles brush, pretty thick and oval shaped and you can use it to apply eyeshadow on the eyelid as a sheer wash of colour but it also helps to blend eyeshadows. This really is the ultimate brush for your eyes. Pretty much! wink
The 231 Luxe Petit Crease:
This one is a ZOEVA’s cult brush!
This is a natural bristles blending brush, but with a fine and tapered shape.
It allows you to do a very precise eyeshadow application in the crease, especially if you have a small eyelid, and it is also very good to blend the eyeshadow along the lower lash line, for a very soft effect.
I love this brush and I use it very often (and I also own 2 of them).
The 221 Luxe Soft Crease:
The 221 and 228 are quite similar in their shape and function, but there are still a few details that make the difference between them…
The 221 is a natural bristles blending brush, very soft and fluffy. I personally use it only to apply a transition shade in the crease. It helps me to blend eyeshadows between them, making such a soft gradient effect on the eyelid and the crease.
It is softer than the 227, so the makeup application is sheerer.
The 228 Luxe Crease:
The 228 is a blending brush with natural bristles.
Generally, I use it clean, to blend all the colors together in the crease. It’s quite large (slightly more than the 221) and soft, which allows to blend colors very well together. For me, this is a must-have for all the smokey eyes lovers!
The 232 Luxe Classic Shader:
Ah, I love this brush!
This is a shader brush, very dense and flat, which allows a color application with more coverage than with a blending brush. Generally I use it mostly on the eyelid but why not also to apply a shadow all over the lid.
It would be like a big brother of the MAC 239 (one of my faves) but a bit wider and longer. So, it’s faster to apply the color: perfect! smile
The 238 Luxe Precise Shader:
The 238 is a mini shader brush, thin, flat and very firm.
I use it to apply an eyeshadow along the lash line but mainly to make a highlight in the inner corner of the eye. It is ultra-precise!
The 310 Spot Liner:
A real discovery, this 310 brush!
At first, I didn’t understand, I thought it was a brush to use with a concealer to correct (no idea why, maybe because of the word “spot” lol). It didn’t work well at all because it was so tiny so it took ages! Nope, I wasn’t convinced.
And then, I realized that it was actually a liner brush, but with a form that I had never seen before.
I tried it as a liner brush and it was a revelation!!! This is by far the easiest brush to use with a gel liner! It’s perfect for draw an ultra-precise line, almost in the lash and it also helps to make a very wearable and tiny flick, perfect for a “day” version of eyeliner.
I use it all the time! I’ll probably have to buy another soon, because you can never have too many good liner brushes, can you? wink
The 322 Brow Line:
However, this one was a miss for me.
This is a brow brush in synthetic bristles.
Personally, when I use a brush in my eye brows, I prefer when the bristles are very stiff, almost hard for it to “brush” the eyebrows when it applies the product. I think that it distributes the color better and the result is more natural.
But sadly, the 322 is quite soft and wide, so I don’t find it really efficient. It’s difficult to be precise with it. It just didn’t work well with me.
In short, it’s the only brush in the set I don’t use at all.
In summary:
[wprs-pros][wprs-cons]
A rather well thought through set, with all the brushes you may need to achieve the perfect smokey eyes! smile
The Rose Golden Luxury Complete Eye Set Volume 2 is available on ZOEVA website for $78.

Hi! Thanks for your review, but I would like to know which set you liked more: the first one or vol. 2? I want to order one of them, but I can’t decide which one is better. Thank you!

Hi Irina!
For me, it really depends on the makeup brushes you need. Both are extremely good in my opinion, I didn’t see any difference in quality. I liked the first one I got because it has both face and eye makeup brushes though. But I love the eye set because it’s really complete. So really, it depends on the brushes you want! ;)

just wondering if you compare the first rose golden and the vol 2 rose golden set which one do you prefer? :)
Bonnie Garner wrote
Hi Steph! :)
Actually, it really depends on the kind of makeup brushes you want.
As I said in the previous comment, if you want a mix between face and eye makeup brushes, the first one is better and if you only want some eye ones, prefer the vol 2! ;)

Hi! I have a question. I was on a forum where a lady said she seen a big difference in quality between vol.1 and vol.2 particularly with the complete eye set. Do you see any difference? I own about 3 full luxe sets from Zoeva and I had purchased three more. vol. 1 complete eye set. Vol.2 complete eye set and vol. 2 with some face and eye brushes. I don’t want to be disappointed when I get them. Do you think the quality might have been reduced? I’m a huge Zoeva fan and recommend them to everyone!

Hi Rosey! :)
I didn’t see any difference in quality between the 2 sets. I’ve been using my Zoeva eye makeup brushes (from the Volume 2) almost every day since I bought them and they’re still good as new!
I love them! :)
