Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks, my review

A cheap matte liquid lipstick able to compete in quality with some of the most high-end makeup brands? Let’s see if the Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks deserve all the hype they are getting at the moment!

Wet n Wild is a well-known American drugstore brand. If you’re a makeup addict on a budget, you have probably heard of it! wink In Dubai, the brand is available in some supermarkets, but the new releases aren’t available straight away here. I already spoke about their blushes I adore, in my post about the US drugstore gems a few months ago.

Last January, I saw at least three reviews on YouTube about these Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks, one after the other. And these videos came from American YouTubers I usually trust (here are the reviews’ links: Tati, Eshani, and Laura). They described them as the best liquid lipstick formula of the drugstore. And apparently, they weren’t the only ones to think that way, because when I decided to place an order, I realized that it was a bit complicated. They were sold out almost everywhere!

I was lucky, I finally found them on Walgreens.com, and they were on sale! (3 for $10, yeah!) OK, I didn’t really choose my colors because there were only 3 in stock but fortunately, they were nice shades. I also wanted the color Give Me Mocha, but sadly, this one was out of stock sad

So I “chose” Rebel Rose, Nice To Fuchsia and Oh My Dolly.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks, presentation:

What the brand says about them:

“What glides on like butter, feels like a second skin and wont budge? Our Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick! Made with glammed out superpowers, it goes on glossy yet transforms into a high – pigmented matte finish with some serious staying power.
Read our lips. This color is going nowhere.
Glides on glossy and transforms into high-pigmented matte finish

Lightweight formula made with serious staying power
Intense pigmentation without drying the lips”

It’s a liquid lipstick with a totally matte finish, a very lightweight feeling on the lips and an intense, long-lasting color result.
The brand Wet n Wild also claims it’s not drying and has a very high pigmentation.
There are 13 colors in the range, and they retail for $4.99.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks, my test and thoughts:

– Packaging:

For a less than 5 dollars lipstick, I find it gives a rather high-end feeling! In fact, it makes me think a lot about the packaging of my Dose Of Colors lipsticks and also the Jeffree Star ones. The applicator is exactly the same as these two brands. They probably all share the same supplier for their packaging! wink

– Texture:

It’s a slightly foamy texture but quite liquid and fine. It applies easily, without smudging.

– Finish:

The finish is completely matte and dries quickly after application (in about 1 minute, it’s completely dry). The formula is completely transfer-free and kiss-proof.

– Scent:

They don’t smell of anything.

 – Color range:

The 13 shades are lovely, and some of them are super pretty. There are some nude, some great pink, from the lightest to the most neon, some beautiful red, orange and brown. Not a lot of crazy colors but a very nice range of flattering colors!

– Pigmentation:

The pigmentation is quite good for Rebel Rose and Nice To Fuchsia, but I had issues with Oh My Dolly, which was patchy when I applied it. I had to apply several layers to have an opaque result, and it feels a little too thick on the lips. It didn’t last very well because of all these layers.

– Application:

I love this foam applicator! It has the perfect size to match the lips shape and distribute the right dose of the product. And as it’s angled, it allows me to draw nice sharp contours, without smudging. I was able to apply even darker colors super quickly! smile

– Feeling on the lips:

They dry in seconds to become completely matte. You can barely feel them on the lips once they’re dry.
But unfortunately, I find them quite drying. If you apply a moisturizing balm underneath, it helps, but after a few hours, it feels very dry.

– Lasting power:

It’s alright, but only if I don’t eat. They last about 4 to 5 hours on me, but they don’t resist a meal. And it’s not super easy to do a touch-up on these because they don’t layer very well. After a meal, it’s better to remove them completely and reapply, which is not very practical, I must admit!
On the other hand, if you don’t eat, I find that they fade pretty nicely from the lips. They’re not crumbly and don’t leave an ugly “butt-hole” lips effect.

– Value for money:

It’s a decent value for money. It’s not the best matte liquid lipstick in the world, but for this price ($4.99), it’s an acceptable formula.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks, the shades:

– Rebel Rose: a light nude dusty rose. I love this color. (obviously lol) It’s rather easy to wear, and it’s not too light and doesn’t wash me out and make me look sick.

– Nice To Fuchsia: for me, it’s not really a fuchsia, but rather a dark pink between a raspberry and a plum. I wasn’t so sure of this color when I placed my order, but in fact, it’s my favorite of the three! It’s a very luminous color which gives a lot of radiance to the complexion.

– Oh My Dolly: a neon pink, very 80s. A super fun color, especially for the summer to come but unfortunately, the texture is not the best, and I find it patchy. Such a shame! sad

In summary:

[wprs-pros][wprs-cons]

In short, if you’re a fan of a very matte finish and you’re on a budget, these lipsticks are a good option. But if you have sensitive, dry lips, I don’t really recommend them.
As you probably understood, I’m a little less enthusiastic than my fellow American bloggers. For me, it’s not the best lipstick in the world, even if at this price, I didn’t really expect it to be.

The Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks are available on the brand’s website for $4.99.
