This time, it’s official! The first water mist with a high sun protection that can be applied throughout the day without ruining your makeup is now available for sale! \o/ \o/ \o/
Well, don’t kill me, but for now, it’s only available in France (and in Europe by delivery)… But I’m sure it’s only a matter of time!
Remember last year, I introduced you to Goldfaden MD, which is basically the same product. Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de soin SPF30 is 4 times cheaper. I know, it’s crazy!!!
For those who didn’t bother clicking on my link, I basically explained that this kind of product has been my quest, my holy grail for years.
Indeed, I protect my face from the sun throughout the year to preserve my skin from ageing signs (as I mentioned in my other post about Daily UV protection) and since I live in Dubai, I feel super concerned by UV protection, as you can imagine!
My main issue is that whatever sunscreen is applied in the morning, it needs to be reapplied every 2 hours to remain effective.
So the dilemma is this one: when you’re already wearing makeup on your face, how are you supposed to reapply some sunscreen?
Because if you reapply sunscreen, a fluid texture, directly on a full face of makeup, well, guess what, it generally doesn’t end well and doesn’t look good… (it’s a bit disgusting, it must to be said).
So an oil-free product that can be applied without ruining the makeup nor leaving a greasy film, that doesn’t need to be spread, is completely transparent and is able to protect the skin (with a strong SPF), until last year it was nowhere to be found. (And believe me, I looked everywhere)
So let’s see what Bioderma has to offer, shall we?

What the brand said about it:

Because obviously, you can imagine that in other markets (such as Asia or US), it has already been available for a few months.
But if you look closely at the ingredients list, the formula is closer to a makeup setting spray (with a lot of alcohol in it) so maybe they’re not exactly the same product…
Because, interesting thing: this mist doesn’t belong to the “suncare” range of the brand but to its moisturizing one, Hydrabio.
It’s considered more of a product which prevents skin aging, moisturizes and protects so it’s not really like a sunscreen that you would take with you to the beach.
The reason? It’s not resistant to water or perspiration.
I would describe this product as a city sunscreen, which can be used more for touch-ups during the day. For me, it’s ideal to slip into your hand-bag so you always have a UV protection available.
Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de soin SPF30 Sunscreen Water Mist, detailed description and how to use it:
– Packaging:
In this product, the innovation is both in the formula and in the packaging.
Indeed, in order to get a real mist, Bioderma needed an atomizer to evenly distribute the product (to protect all over without you having to spread it on the skin) and as fine as possible (without any droplets).
The brand chose a propeller cap that looks exactly like a perfume or a thermal water one. It’s a spray which continuously vaporizes the product, not like a conventional sun mist (for example) where the product is distributed like a jet on the skin. Basically, the mist stops only when you have finished pressing the cap.
– Texture:
The texture is really like water, completely liquid and transparent.
– Perfume:
The product is fragrance free. Nevertheless, it does have a very slight smell but doesn’t remain on the skin.
– Formula:
The revolution in this Hydrabio sunscreen water mist is in the sunscreens it contains. It is a SPF30, which is a rather high SPF (SPF30 blocks 97% of UV rays).
So far, the sunscreens used in cosmetics were lipophilic substances, soluble in oily substances. That’s why most sunscreen products, even with fluid textures, are usually a little thick when you apply them and can leave a slightly oily aspect on the skin. The formula has to be oil-based.
Well, not here! In this Hydrabio mist, the filters used are hydrophilic, they have an affinity for water. So they can be integrated in a water-based formula.
The brand was able to work on a water like texture, which can be sprayed easily on the skin, even if it’s full of makeup without disturbing it and it dries leaving a completely matte finish.
About the rest of the formula, there is a lot of moisturizing ingredients (apple extract, vitamin PP, the patent Aquagenium which helps to retain moisture naturally present in the skin) and an antioxidant (vitamin E).

– Application/ How to use:
This mist can be applied on bare skin or on top of your makeup.
Personally, I prefer to apply it as touch-ups throughout the day. In the morning, I always use a suncreen under my makeup (currently, it’s the one by La Roche Posay).
You can apply Bioderma Hydrabio up to 4 times per day (every 2 hours) for an optimal protection. A bottle should then last you a month.
Usually, since I have an oily skin, I begin by absorbing the shine of my face using blotting papers (those by Clean & Clear are my favorite), then I apply some powder on my T-zone if necessary. The idea is to apply the Hydrabio mist on a “clean” surface (not greasy anyway).
Then, very important, I shake the bottle rigorously to distribute the filters into the formula.
I then spray 4 pressures (1 in the center of the face, 2 on the sides and 1 at the top of the face) and I place the product about 15-20 cm from my face (be careful and close your eyes and mouth) when spraying. You need to let it dry without touching it or spreading it.
Immediately after spraying, the face is a little shiny, and slightly wet. But a few minutes after,the product is completely dry, matte and on me, it leaves no trace or extra layer whatsoever. If you touch your skin, you feel it’s slightly sticky, but that feeling doesn’t last.
One last thing to think about: you need to regularly clean the cap to prevent it from cloging (just run it under warm water and wipe the pump outlet with a handkerchief).
– Efficiency:
I tested it many times after I bought it (one month ago), when the temperatures allowed me to stay outside more than 10 minutes (currently, it’s complicated, it’s over 45-48 degrees outside). I also apply it when I drive (UVs pass through most windows).
And for now, no sunburn or sunspots to declare. So for me, it works!
– Value For Money:
The product seems tiny (this is a 50ml) but by using 4 times daily, the brand promises a full month use. And I like the fact that it’s small, because it’s easy to carry with me in my bag.
I would say the value for money is pretty good compared to other brands. The price is between 8 and 10 euros ($9 to $11) depending on the shops.
– Availability:
It’s only available in French pharmacies and parapharmacies for now, but if you live in Europe, this website can deliver it to your place.

For me, it’s a real revolution in sun care! I bought 3 of them, because it probably won’t be available in Dubai for a while (in 2 years, maybe ;P ).
