90s makeup is back with NARS Fall 2014 collection

Yayyy, Fall is (really) here in Dubai! We can finally put jumpers or jackets (well, just during the night but that’s progress) and also wear all the beautiful autumn makeup collections!
So today I will introduce you to the NARS Fall 2014 collection. *

Yes, I know, it’s a bit of a NARS festival here right now… I’m sorry, but first NARS is my favorite brand of the moment (yes, I said “of the moment” because let’s be clear, beauty bloggers are not very faithful) and also NARS has just landed in Dubai.
So basically, 1 month ago, I bought almost the entire NARS counter in Sephora. But I I was lucky enough to also receive some items from the latest collections from NARS so that I could review them on the blog.

I’d already mentioned the new eyeliners Night Series last week, but today I want to show you the rest of the Fall 2014 collection.

NARS Fall 2014 collection Autumn:

Let’s just take a moment to focus on the choice of colors, shall we. When I saw this collection on the NARS corner in Sephora, I just thought “OMG, this is so 90s makeup!”.
All these dark nude hues, these brown, mauvy shades… For me, it’s really a kind of 90s makeup vibe with this collection. If you want to see a bit of what I mean, and for my younger readers who are curious about what the 90s makeup was all about, take a look at my Pinterest 90s makeup board ;)

However, one could say it’s not that obvious when you see the image of the collection’s campaign. It’s really glamorous and the inspiration seems to be more about the late 70’s, or the early 80’s:

Frankly, it looks like she’s playing in Dynasty or (the old) Dallas TV show, don’t you think?

Well no, I’m sorry, I won’t let myself be distracted by the over sized hair, these iridescent geometric prints and huge golden fur! No.
For me, I insist, these makeup colors were really what I was wearing 20 years ago (ouch). Warm brown, almost chocolate, lilac and purple and some glitter, please. Thank you.

Let’s do a little round-up, shall we?

Duo eyeshadow Dolomites:

I was happy to have received this from NARS… I almost bought it in Sephora because I really love the color of the Duo Eyeshadow Dolomites!

The quality of this duo is great: good pigmentation, easy application and blending, perfection! Of course, the lasting power is very good as well.
But what I like the most about this product is the choice of these 2 colors: a very bright iridescent, almost metallic, purple-ish pink, which makes the green in my eyes pop and a warm hazelnut brown, almost chocolate in color (sorry for my foody comparison, I’m a little hungry). This last one is almost matte, I would say it’s slightly a satin finish.
These 2 colours are a great match for each other, but I also love the duo of different finishes. You can really make some great looks with these two eyeshadows. They complement each other perfectly!
Finally, even though I love the huge eyeshadow palettes with 25 different eyeshadows, I realize that for my every day makeup, I often use 2-3 colours. Yeah, it’s still easier and faster than trying to put together a complicated smoky eye look with 12 different shades…

In short, I’m a little obsessed with this little Dolomites Duo by NARS!

It can be found on NARS website for $35. And it’s a limited edition. (RUN!) wink

Blush Unlawful:

Do I really need to introduce the NARS blushes? Anyway, considering the my (embarrassingly) large collection, I’ll have to say no!
I’ll just summarize by saying they’re part of my top 3 of the best blushes in the market. Perfect pigmentation, gorgeous colors and great lasting power, you’ve got it all.

Unlawful is no exception regarding the quality. The colour is a warm pink/coral, almost orange and very iridescent. It contains silver glitter.
The color scared me a little at first, I admit. Blushes with orange undertones are not usually my favorites. But as it’s a kind of orange in pinky shade, it is very pretty on the cheeks.
However, I’m not a big fan of the silver glitter. I would have preferred a bit less of a shimmery effect. It’s a little too ‘disco-ball’ for me… But if you like shiny stuff, you’ll love Unlawful!

Unlawful is available on NARS website for $35.

Satin Lip Pencil Bansar:

I’ll be honest with you, when I received this Satin Lip Pencil in the shade Bansar, I thought something like “Yuck, a brown pencil.”

Brown is far from what I would call my favorite lipstick colour. First, it reminds me of the 90s makeup. And let’s face it, even if the 90s makeup is a big trend right now, in my memory, it was not always pretty. I can tell you that, now. Sometimes, it was pretty awfull, with makeup full of very dull and harsh colours. So please, let’s pray together to avoid the come back of the browny lip pencil! (Oh wait, 90s lips are already trending…)

I’m a fan of the NARS Satin Lip Pencil formula. I own both the matte (the Velvet) and  the satin version.
The pencil shape is very practical, the pigmentation is a dream, the comfort on the lips, the long-lasting power… They’re excellent products.

But the color of this one… Clearly, I would have never picked Bansar myself.

It’s funny, I was talking the other day with my girlfriend Anne, from the blog Lifestyle Oasis. She is addicted to Nude lipsticks. When she’s feeling reckless, she puts a peachy pink lipstick. wink And recently, she was offered lipsticks with much more vibrant shades (a red coral almost fluorescent, a fuchsia pink… the kind of color that I love lol) and finally, she was delighted to get out of her comfort zone!

Well, that’s kind of what happened to me when I put it on my lips Bansar Satin Lip pencil. I thought that it wasn’t so bad after all, and also that it changed a bit from my usual vibrant shades.
I must add that the color is anything but dull. What we have here is a very warm and very luminous pink brown.
Well, I’m not saying I’m going to start a new collection of beige and brown lipsticks, but if I want to wear a different color to the ones I’m usually wearing, I will be glad to have it! wink

Bansar Satin Lip Pencil is available on NARS website  for $25.

Finally, here are the swatches of the collection:

And on my face:

Other products used: Diorskin Star fondation, eyeliner Urban Decay 24/7 Glide in Corrupt and mascara CHANEL Le Volume in black.

And you, what do you think of the new collection of NARS for Fall 2014? Tempted by the 90s browny makeup? wink
