Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighter, my review

After the Sweet Peach Glow Palette disappointment, I was not thinking about re-purchasing something from Too Faced anytime soon. But I am very weak in front of a pretty makeup product and against all odds (the reviews are very mixed), this Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighter is a nice surprise!

The very cute packaging, even if it is a little kitsch, was impossible to resist and the description of the powder given by the brand seemed super promising. Indeed, Too Faced talks about an ultra-metallic strobing effect with this highlighter.
For me, this description is quite exaggerated but oddly enough, it’s for the best!

Let me explain:

Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighter, presentation:

What the brand says:

“Using an exclusive liquid-to-powder formula, Love Light takes the best of powder, liquid, baked and cream formulas to create unparalleled color payoff for a pearl radiance and silky smooth texture. It features a luminosity boosting agent and high pearl consistency that instantly brightens. It delivers gorgeous color payoff with a pearl, radiant finish in universal shades that impart a flattering glow and an eye-catching, metallic shine.

Too Faced Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Jerrod Blandino was inspired to capture that ethereal glow that occurs only when a woman is in love, so he went to Italy to discover an exclusive, liquid-to-powder formula that enables the light reflecting pigments to float in the powder. Unlike traditional pressed powders that crush the pearls during the pressing process, Too Faced’s innovative technology keeps the pearls spherical so they’re able to reflect light from any angle.

This product is vegan-friendly, and cruelty-free, and free of gluten.”

Reading this description, I don’t know about you, but I expected one of these highlighters that we can see from outer space.
And in fact, it’s certainly very luminous but I find it quite subtle and natural. You can barely see the product on the skin (what I mean is that it doesn’t sit on top of the skin) but you can still see the glow it gives.

The “liquid-to-powder” texture described by the brand is not really how I would describe it, personally. For me, it’s more a gel-powder texture. It’s not as creamy as some other highlighters (like the Becca ones, for example). The texture is stiffer than these.

About the finish, the brand speaks about an innovative technology that uses pearls. The metallic effect in a powder is usually obtained by crushing pearls. The technology used by Too Faced in this Love Light Prismatic Highlighter keeps the pearl in its original shape and the light is reflected at all its angles for a more intense effect.

Also, when I read reviews about this product, I saw that many people were disappointed by their “lack of pigmentation” but I personally don’t agree. I find the pigmentation is perfect for the effect I want. I’m not a fan of super-obvious highlighters that look like two metallic strokes on the top of the cheekbones (and worse, on the nose! It’s definitely not my thing).
So, this Love Light Prismatic Highlighter is exactly what I’m looking for: a glow which blends perfectly into the skin, giving it a lovely luminous finish without emphasizing its texture.

They exist in 3 shades and I chose the lighter: Blinded By The Light, a gorgeous white gold perfect for light skin tones.

Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighter, my test and thoughts:

– Packaging:

So yes, it doesn’t feel very luxurious because it’s basically a plastic mirror effect compact with a mirror but hey, it’s still very cute. And I absolutely love the fact that the powder looks like a diamond!
It’s quite kitsch, let’s be real here, but still cute IMO! wink

– Formula and texture:

As I said above, the brand describes the texture of this product as something in between a liquid and a powder but I can’t really feel its creamy side when I apply it. The powder is still super soft and easy to apply, not too powdery at all.
When a highlighter is too creamy, I personally find that it tends to emphasize the texture of the skin whereas here, the Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighter blends completely into the skin for a luminous “glow from within” effect.

– Finish:

I would describe the finish as pearlescent. Not super metallic but rather slightly shimmery with microscopic glitter (no big chunks here). It’s almost like a glossy effect on the skin. It is super pretty and much more subtle than it seems.

– Color range:

They exist in 3 shades:
Blinded By The Light: a light golden white, almost silvery (the one I chose),
You Light Up My Life: a warm gold,
Ray Of Light: a rose gold.

Every skin color can find its shade. smile

– Application:

I usually use my highlighter brushes to apply it.
For example:
– the ZOEVA 134,
– the Smashbox 22, ideal for a lighter application.

But if I want a more intense effect, I apply it with my fingertips. It’s super easy to blend and I love it!

– Pigmentation:

I find the pigmentation ideal for this type of product. The color and intensity can vary depending on the amount and the application method.

– Lasting power:

Quite good, it lasts 8h on me.

– Value For Money:

They retail for $30, not cheap but it’s the regular Too Faced prices. And the weight of the product is quite big, too (9g).

Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighter, the shade Blinded By The Light:

A very pretty golden white/ light champagne with a cool undertone. This cool undertone (it’s  almost silver) gives a lot of intensity and luminosity on my light skin. I absolutely love it!

Finally, here are the swatches:

And on me:

My lipstick is a new product. I will do a review here very soon. wink

In summary:

[wprs-pros][wprs-cons]

A very good surprise. Lately, Too Faced released a lot of products I wasn’t really attracted to. But the quality of this product is absolutely undeniable despite its Polly Pocket packaging. It just proves that you should never judge a book only by its cover! wink

The Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighters are available on the brand’s website for $30.

And you, what are your thoughts about these Too Faced Love Light Prismatic highlighters? Tempted? wink
