I feel like I need to start this review by confessing that I’m not one of Lancôme’s biggest fans. But still, these Matte Shaker Liquid Lipsticks peaked my interest!
Unlike most of my fellow bloggers, I wasn’t impressed with the Juicy Shakers released last year.
I bought one in duty-free to try it, and I just didn’t understand the point of this product. All the colors look the same when you wear them, the fragrances are fruity and nice but not super innovative (it reminds me of the Juicy Tubes from my teenage years) and their so-called moisturizing effect thanks to their oil texture wasn’t really obvious. In short, for me, the Juicy Shakers are a bit too gimmicky!
And to keep on bitching, I find that sadly, a lot of products launched by Lisa Eldridge are a little bit gimmicky. She’s been the artistic director of Lancôme for a few years now, and I was expecting a lot from her! I’m usually such a fan of her work. But come on, did you see this ridiculous $60 fake rose-highlighter? I just can’t.
Maybe I’m not the target of this brand, after all…
But for once, I was quite tempted by these Matte Shaker Liquid Lipsticks. I really liked the idea of a second skin lipstick, especially if it’s very long-lasting! And also, they seemed much more pigmented than the Juicy Shakers.
Let’s see if they kept their promises!
Lancôme Matte Shaker liquid lipsticks, presentation:
What the brand says about them:
“Finally, a matte liquid lipstick that wears comfortably without drying out your lips! A water-in-oil emulsion that’s formulated with a patented Ultra Thin Film technology to deliver weightless texture and a second-skin feel without sacrificing intense color payoff. And it has Vitamin E for comfortable, non-drying wear.
Its unique cushion sponge allows for maximum absorption of the formula to deliver a precise, soft application onto the lips, and buildable color that dries without smudging or transfer.
Just shake to soak the applicator with formula, apply the cushion directly onto lips to build the saturated color… then wait for it to dry down to a lightweight, comfort matte finish.
Available in 7 vibrant hues- wear one on its own or mix and match for even more shade options!“
The brand describes it as a liquid lipstick with a matte finish and a very lightweight feeling on the lips paired with an intense, long-lasting color.
Lancôme uses a special technology for this Matte Shaker formula:
– the base of the formula is composed mainly of water, which allows for a great concentration of pigments while keeping a super lightweight effect on the lips (the texture is indeed super liquid)
– also, the formula of these Matte Shaker is enriched with silicone oils that give comfort but also allow to keep a matte finish,
– finally, it also includes film-forming polymers, which increase the coverage and lasting power. No risk of a crumbly texture, the finish remains supple on the lips.
There are 7 colors in the range, and their price is $22.
Lancôme Matte Shaker liquid lipsticks, my test and thoughts:
– Packaging:
Quite cool and fun!
It has the shape of a shaker, and it must be shaken to impregnate the pigments of the formula in the cushion-shaped foam applicator. It’s the same packaging as the Juicy Shakers, but the Matte Shaker has a black lacquered top (the top is silvery for the Juicy Shaker).
– Texture:
It’s a very liquidy texture, almost watery.
– Finish:
That’s where I don’t totally agree with the brand claims. The finish is not really matte for me. It’s a little bit shiny, or at the most, it could be called semi-matte (they’re very different from the super matte Wet n Wild lipsticks I mentioned a few weeks ago, for example). It also takes several minutes to dry on the lips. However, when it’s dry, it becomes completely transfer-free and kiss-proof.
– Scent:
They have a soft fruity scent, much less pronounced than the perfumes of the Juicy Shakers.
– Color range:
The 7 shades in the range are quite nice even if they remain fairly classic. Too bad, no real nudes in the range. The colors are quite bright (red, pink, orange).
– Pigmentation:
The pigmentation is good. However, you need to shake the bottle very well to distribute the pigments in the formula. Otherwise, the coverage is not optimum on the lips.
– Application:
I’m not a fan of this “cushion” applicator. Yes, it’s very soft and nice, but it’s also not precise at all! It’s too big and round to draw sharp contours. I have to apply a lip pencil systematically underneath to not have a “blurry” result. Especially with bright colors, it’s not ideal!
Also, be aware of not soaking up too much product on it and especially do not press it too hard against the lips during the application otherwise, it can overflow. And the formula stains the skin, so good luck with any corrections!
– Feeling on the lips:
They dry in a few minutes and form an ultra-light film on the lips, like a second skin. You can barely feel them on the lips.
They’re not especially moisturizing, but they’re not drying either. It’s really like a “bare lips” feeling.
– Lasting power:
It varies completely from one shade to another.
With the Beige Vintage shade, it lasts about 1/2 day. It can’t resist a meal at all, and I have to reapply after I eat and drink.
For Pink Power, the lasting power is insane. It doesn’t move after a meal and tints the lips in a very durable way. Probably too durable because even when I use a makeup remover, it’s still on my lips. My lips remain neon pink even after I used my cleansing oil. -_-
I have to use a lip scrub to remove the hue. It’s kind of annoying, really. It looks like the brand didn’t know how to manage the pigment concentration in these products…
– Value for money:
The Matte Shaker is not perfect IMO. So, I’m not sure I would say it’s a very good value for money. It’s OK, but not the best.
Lancôme Matte Shaker liquid lipsticks, the shades:
– Beige Vintage (270): a warm pinky brown. I expected more of a nude color, it’s more an intense nude shade! smile It’s a very nice color which goes with many makeup looks.
– Pink Power (378): a bright fuchsia pink, super vibrant. This shade gives a lot of radiance to the complexion. I really like it!
Finally, here are the swatches:
And here they are on me:

In summary:
[wprs-pros][wprs-cons]
In short, I really like lightweight feeling and the nice coverage, like a very pigmented lip stain. But if you want an ultra-matte finish, this is clearly not the case with these lipsticks. And the lasting power is quite different from one color to another: either it doesn’t resist a meal, or it lasts so well that it remains on the lips even when you want to remove them which is a bit annoying! uneasy
The Lancôme Matte Shaker Liquid Lipsticks are available on the brand’s website for $22.
And you, have you tried the Lancôme Matte Shaker Liquid Lipsticks? What did you think of them?
