ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip my review

Oops they did it again! After their huge success last year, ColourPop have released more liquid lipsticks with the brand new ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip.

The brand created such a buzz with the launch of their ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip. You may remember my story about my agitated night spent in front of my computer to order them! tongue
This time, the release of the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip was quieter, and to be honest, I almost didn’t order them.

First, overall, I wasn’t completely seduced by the formula of the Ultra Matte Lip, which despite their sublime colors are very drying and quite difficult to wear (touch-ups are almost impossible to do and they crumble during the day, yuck). Anyway, as usual, the day of the release, a little voice in my head tells me to go to the ColourPop website “just to have a quick look” (damn you Trendmood1!!!) and since I can’t control myself when it comes to makeup ColourPop, I always end up buying all the lipsticks.

And secondly, the name “Ultra Satin Lips” is quite confusing because you expect a lip lacquer kind of formula which is not really the case.

So with all that, I was being cautious and “only” ordered 4 this time. (Well, with 3 Lippie Pencils to go with them, obviously)  (because I had to order more than $30 to avoid paying delivery fees, you know ;) ).

But honestly, I have no regret!
If like me, you didn’t love the Ultra Matte Lip, you should be interested in the following:

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip liquid lipsticks, presentation:

ColourPop describes them as liquid lipsticks with a satin finish, but for me, they have a semi-matte to matte finish within a few hours.

The formula is quite creamy at first but it’s also very lightweight. It doesn’t dry completely on the lips like the Ultra Matte Lip, so it remains a little sticky on the lips and it isn’t transfer-proof.

In the range, there are 16 colors available. All are supposed to be highly pigmented and opaque, extremely long lasting and non-drying.

Let’s see if these Ultra Satin Lip lipsticks keep their promises!

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip liquid lipsticks, my test and thoughts:

– Packaging:

The packaging is a plastic bottle with a metallic cap, exactly the same as the Ultra Matte Lip.
I find it rather sleek and elegant, not cheap at all.

– Formula:

It’s a liquid texture but still rather creamy, not thick or “moussy” like some other brands. This is a texture rather easy to apply because it doesn’t bleed and it’s easy to spread on the lips.

Scent:

The perfume is so light you can barely smell it.

– Application:

The applicator allows a precise application. The formula doesn’t really set when you apply it, so you have time to draw beautiful and sharp contours.

– Pigmentation and coverage:

The pigmentation and coverage are great, even with just one single layer! The layer is homogeneous, even with the darker shades.

Finish and Feeling on the lips:

At first, when you apply it, it’s a true satin finish (not glossy at all, it’s not a lip lacquer or a lip gloss) but throughout the day, it dries more and more on the lips and after 2-3 hours, it’s a semi-matte to matte finish depending on the shades.
However, it doesn’t dry completely, so it’s not 100% transfer-proof. It’s not the kind of messy formula which smudges everywhere on the face. No, it doesn’t move and even when you drink or eat, a little bit of product will come off but the formula stays in place on the lips.

They’re also very comfortable to wear; not necessarily moisturizing but not drying at all!

– Lasting Power:

The lasting power is totally insane. After lunch, I just need a little touch-up in the center of my lips, that’s all. And after that, it doesn’t move until the evening! The formula remains flexible, doesn’t crumble, stays bright and intense, it’s crazy!
After more than eight hours on the lips, the contour is only slightly less sharp but the intensity of the color is still there. It really is the perfect lipstick to wear for a long day!

Price:

The icing on the cake: their price is $6. So at that price, you definitely need all of them! wink

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip liquid lipsticks, the colors:

With 16 different colors, it leaves a lot of possibilities! As usual, the color range is super complete and appealing with crazy colors or more easy ones.

I chose 4 shades: Dopey, Frick N ‘Frack, London Fog and Panda. Some of them have a matching Lippie Pencil and as I’m a fan of these lip pencils, I also purchased some of them to go with my lipsticks! wink

– Dopey: a pretty mauvy pink, like a dusty rose kind of shade (it has some grey undertones). It’s the color I wanted the most but I ‘m not sure that this is my favorite after all… It kind of makes me look sick. However, if I mix it with a nude brown pencil with warm undertones, it’s much better. So, there’s hope!

Frick N’ Frack: a good surprise, because I was a little bit afraid that this shade would be too brown on me but it’s a beautiful brick red with brown undertones. It’s rather dark but still luminous. I love it!

London Fog: definitely my favorite of the 4. It’s a gorgeous ruby red, with some very flattering pink undertones which makes your teeth look whiter! I received a lot of compliments when I wore it, which is always a good sign! wink

Panda: a beautiful purple pink, quite intense and bright, and not too dark, perfect! smile

Finally, here are the swatches:

And on me:

In summary:

[wprs-pros][wprs-cons]

For me, it’s probably one of the best liquid lipstick formulas in the market. And they’re cheap as chips!
My favorite (on me) is probably London Fog, but Frick N ‘Frack is close. In short, I definitely need more of them and you too need them in your life!!! tongue

The Ultra Satin Lip liquid lipsticks are available on the ColourPop website for $6.

And you, do you want to try these Ultra Satin Lip ColourPop? What colors are on your wishlist? wink
