In summer, especially when I’m feeling lazy, I drastically reduce my makeup routine, and I often go for a bold lipstick.
It’s easy and it immediately brightens the face, especially with a tan. A thin coat of your favourite BB cream, a little bit of mascara, and there you go!
I will use this post to do my coming-out: yes, I am a lipstick addict. It’s been years and it doesn’t get better with age, au contraire!
I recently added a lot of new lipsticks to my (already big) collection so I decided to share my feelings about them with you, guys… Because, you know, I’m not the only lip-product addict out here!
I’ll do this post in several parts, because as I told you, I’ve got plenty of new lipsticks to introduce to you! It will be a kind of summer (and perhaps even fall) saga: “2014 lipsticks, my favorite”!;)
You’ll see, there will are some bright colors! I’m not a the biggest fan of nude lipsticks. Yes, I mean, they are helpful when you do a very smokey eye, but it’s not really what I call exciting, while a beautiful red lipstick, really stands out… Something I can easily rave about it!
The two lipsticks that I want to talk about today are not really summer lipsticks, but they’ve been launched recently here in Dubai, so I wanted to talk about them here.
And every girl needs a real nice lipstick from time to time, don’t you think? (in the evening for going out, for example) (or if you just need a dose of glamour) (Do we really need a reason to buy a lipstick?) (Yeaaaah, I thought so)
-Innovation: the super soft formula, easy to apply and so comfortable on the lips. It’s very light on the lips, I barely feel it when I’m wearing it.
For a matte lipstick, that’s quite rare. Usually, the matte texture has a tendency to dry the lips, but not this one!
-Texture: matte (obviously!;))
-Application: easy! Even if it’s a matte, it applies smoothly, and it glides perfectly on the lips. Not like some others matte lipsticks (yes, I’m talking about you, MAC Ruby Woo )…
-Pigmentation: very good, a single coat is enough to cover the lips. The quicker, the better!;)
-Lasting Power: very good, the color lasts at least 4-5 hours without fading.
-Colour Range: not super crazy (it’s Clinique, after all, it’s not surprising) but there still are some pretty colours.
I’m not a big fan of nude or pale pink colour, especially for a matte lipstick. With my complexion, it makes me look almost dead, so I usually avoid them. I can’t say anything about the Suede and Beauty colours, to be honest…
I set my heart on Matte Crimson, a beautiful blue toned red (hellooo white teeth!), very retro and feminine. But if you want more trendy colors, the Matte Mandarin and the Matte Magenta were also very pretty. I tried to be reasonable for once (or perhaps I’ve just thought about all the lipsticks I already own) and I didn’t take the 3 colors… But you never know what the future holds.;)
-Smell: without perfume (it’s still Clinique, no surprise).
-Packaging: simple, but classy, unpretentious, very Clinique again.
-Price: 125 AED. This one is brand new. It was launched in the Sephora Dubai Mall first, and now, it’s available in the Clinique counters (and online, of course).
Oh this one was expected! It was launched in Dubai in June (4 months after the rest of the world, yeah!), and after having seen the swatches all over the internet, I couldn’t wait!
Quite frankly, it’s been years since I had wanted an Estée Lauder lipstick… This is a very classic brand, far too classic for me usually, but with this lipstick, they really succeeded.
I think we can all agree and say that it is the best lipstick launch of the year so far, OK?
But come on, you need a few more reasons, so:
-Innovation: Estée Lauder speaks of a “sculpting” effect, and that’s true, this lipstick really plumps the lips. When I wear it, I really have the impression my lips are “full” thanks to its 3D pigments effect. A true volumizing lipstick!
-Texture: Creamy, comfortable, moisturizing. But it’s very light on the lips, it is super comfortable to wear.
-Application: Very easy, the stick is very precise and the texture can be applied smoothly and covers the lips in one coat.
-Pigmentation: The winner! The pigmentation is amazing, and the color is ultra bright and beautiful.
-Colour: The range is full of gorgeous colours, it was very difficult to choose. I chose Impassioned, a stunning sunny orange-red and Tumultuous Pink, a very classy and sublime raspberry red. (Next on the list: Dominant and Vengeful Red)
-Lasting Power: Really good, it easily lasts 6 hours on the lips and fades nicely on the lips without getting in the folds or in the corners.
-Smell: slightly vanilla-scented, but really subtle.
-Packaging: Yes, this is important. For me, lipstick is a beautiful thing, and I want to show it especially when I get it out of the bag for my touch-ups.
So it is a golden and deep-blue tube, very classy, very heavy (= luxury) with a magnetic closure. Yes, I said magnetic. So cool, isn’t it! This detail probably made me a little bit too hysterical about these lipsticks, but hey, as I already said, I’m a lipstick-addict…
-Price: Yes, well, it’s not exactly cheap. But hey, it’s pure luxury, so I do not regret my 180 AED (but next time, I will buy them in the Duty-free!;))…
To conclude, here are the swatches of the 3 lipsticks:
