Big hair don’t care, feat. Kérastase & Oribe

Let’s talk about big hair, shall we?

I have let my hair grow for several years now (yes, it is very slow), and I noticed that with the length it tends to be flatter, and I mean like sadly flat.
Well, quite normal with the “weight” of all the hair. The longer the hair, the more it will need to be ‘pimped’ from the roots.

My hair naturally has a tendency to be slightly wavy, although not really on the curly side, and most importantly, I don’t really have much volume.
Even if I have a good amount of hair, it’s very thin.
If I straighten my hair for example, it really doesn’t suit me. I totally feel it digs my face more and makes my dark circles more obvious (OK maybe I focus too much on those damned dark circles!)
That’s why I want some volume in my hair.

I’ve never really been very focused on hair styling products. Until very recently, the only hair styling product I used was the Elnett hairspray.

And being French/Parisian, I have a big tendency to be capillary lazy. Very often I allow my hair to dry naturally.
And yeah, letting your hair dry in the wind, that is one of the famous Parisian’s hair beauty secrets revealed, lol !

But since I now live in a country where women truly worship their hair, I too from time to time, want a perfect blow dry with nice soft curls and beautiful volume (but not one of those ‘beehive‘ hair styles, never!).

No, the fact that I am obsessed with Lana Del Rey at the moment has nothing to do with it! wink

Sorry, I’ve kind of lost my point, there.

So, here in Dubai, it’s really the empire of big hair, isn’t it Kate?

So without going that far (because no, really Dynasty, is over by the way!), a little more volume for the hair, is really pretty.

 

 

Here are my findings to pump my hair a little:

Volumifique Kérastase Mousse :

And I can hear you saying to yourself: “So, she waited to be in Dubai to discover the volumizing mousse hair. Wow, what a discovery!”

Well, yes, I admit, I’m really a beginner when it comes to hair style products, it’s pretty clear!

It’s even worse than that, what I had understood, is that the ‘volumising’ mousse was only for curly hair, yes, I know, pathetic…
Hey, I can’t be expert everywhere! wink

This mousse is specifically for fine and flat hair aka ‘my type of hair’.
It will amplify the hair directly at the roots, like a ‘support’ and it is also very long-lasting. It protects from the heat, from the hair-dryer, a true all-in-one product, don’t you think?

After my shampoo and conditioner, I pre-dry my hair with a towel and I apply roughly an orange-sized amount of mousse on my scalp first and then I go down, to the lengths of my hair.
And after that, I do my blow-dry, the style hair part of the approach.
I’ll give you a little tip to increase the volume during the blow-dry: doing it with your head upside down will give you better results!

When your hair is dry, you’ll feel it’s different, I can see the volume in the roots of my hair and also I can feel that my hair “grips” more, which is perfect for a super bun or hair-do the next day, too.

About the formula, one good point, it does not contain silicone. This, however, is where it ends as it is not a very natural formula.
I make sure to use a clarifying shampoo (like Phytoneutre or even Lush Seanik) after using these products, to eliminate everything. This kind of formula tends to remain in your scalp, and if not cleaned properly, it’s a direct ticket to dandruff-city (Hello glamour!).

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray:

The famous Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray!
This product is a real celebrity in the blogosphere. All the UK and US bloggers are totally obsessed with this product.
And they are more expert than the French as you may have gathered, when it comes to hair styling products, I know that for sure.

So, no, this is not a dry shampoo, not at all, even if it looks like it is.

It is a dry texturizing spray, which will not give any powdery effect, just a better texture and amplified hair.

So I really had to try it!

I already find that classic dry shampoo helps a lot with volume, but the difference between a dry shampoo and this Oribe dry texturizing spray is that the powder is so fine it can not be seen at all, and also it will help to hold the hair, kind of a mix between a super fine dry shampoo and a hairspray, quite good, isn’t it?
It also has a very strong scent. My husband hates it, he finds that it smells like an old granny, and I quite agree for once, lol.

I apply it at the roots, just a little spritz, just a bit (thankfully, because this spray costs a fortune !)( about 250 AED).
And if you really want super volume, you can tease slightly above. But, really,  the product works pretty well on its own.

The effect is not very long-lasting, especially when you brush it.
If you want more volume the day after the styling, it can be re-applied at the roots and the volume is back! It also acts as a dry shampoo by absorbing the excess sebum, so it’s all good!

There are a lot of good ingredients in the product (keratin, aloe vera, mango and ginger) that soften the hair and one another bonus, a UV filter to protect hair colour. It is always good, especially here!

However, the formula is quite the opposite of a natural one, and there is quite a bit of silicone in it, I prefer to be clear, so that you know. So same as for the Kérastase hair mousse, I use a clarifying shampoo after using this product to avoid deposits on my sensitive scalp (yes, my scalp is quite sensitive :)).

The product is not sold in the UAE  (apparently, it will be soon, a little bird told me), I was lucky, I got a special delivery. wink
