Today, I will tell you about a revolutionary product (for me at least): the Goldfaden MD Sun Visor SPF 30, a high protection sun care mist.
I know I already talked about sunscreen very recently, but I couldn’t not show you this product. Because for me, it is really a true technical innovation!
Protection against UV rays is really a big deal for me and I had already explained my reasons in my daily UV protection article.
It has become a real need to protect myself properly since living in Dubai, because the sun’s rays here are formidable, even very early in the morning: the sun here is no joking matter at all!
My concern is that all conventional sunscreens provide limited protection, at least regarding the amount of time they last. For an optimal protection, it must be reapplied every 2 hours.
So no problem if you don’t wear makeup, but I’m sorry, in summertime, even if it’s more than 40 degrees, I would wear some makeup. Holidays or not, there will always be days when I have some makeup on my face AND where I will need protection against UV rays.
So what I did until now is that I used the lightest product possible (oil-free highly appreciated!) and, when needed, I would apply a little bit of that product on the tips of my fingers and I gently dabbed it onto my skin, trying not to smudge my makeup, which to be quite frank, was never really a success… And I also had the unpleasant impression of adding yet another layer of product on my skin. In the heat, you really want to avoid that!
So, I have been looking for the miracle product for a very long time, the one that would allow me to wear my makeup and at the same time, still be protected from UV rays.
So yes, I have tried compact pressed powders with high SPF (Avène or Shiseido), but I really didn’t love either, they add a thick layer and nearly always more color to my face. If you’ve already put some blush on and/or bronzer and/or highlighter, it all vanishes under a thick powder layer: it’s such a shame, right?
So I thought that it would be wonderful if I could find a sort of solar mist, super light but with a high protection, which could be sprayed directly over my makeup without ruining it and without leaving a really ugly and greasy film on the skin.
Well, this Holy Grail, I think I have finally found it!
Goldfaden MD Sun Visor:
So it’s a sunscreen, an anti-oxidant product with a SPF 30, which is a very good one. (As a reminder, SPF 50 blocks 98 % of UV rays and with a SPF 30, 97% are blocked, so it’s quite similar)
The Sun Visor seems to have a pretty damn good formula:
– formulated with natural and organic ingredients ( including titanium dioxide , a natural UV filter)
– oil-free
– parabens-free (but with phenoxyethanol, of course) ( frankly, it makes me laugh, but oh well… replace a potentially dangerous chemical preservative by another potentially just as dangerous, I still don’t get it, but I guess that marketing has something to do with it :|)
– petrochemical-free (you know, my dear old friends, the mineral oils, derived from petrol? Yep, they’re not invited here)
– alcohol-free (it is always better if you can avoid it)
– fragrance-free
– silicone-free (perfect!)
– gluten-free (as far as I’m concerned, I don’t care about gluten but there are more and more people with gluten intolerance – again, I think it’s more of a marketing argument, the famous “gluten free”, especially for food, don’t you think?)
–100% Vegetarian and not tested on animals
– hypoallergenic
The formula protects against UVA and UVB, is also anti-ageing and will prevent the appearance of dark spots.
But the formula, even if I find it very good, is not what made me jump for this product.
It is the form of the product that is so interesting. It is a mist so fine that it can be sprayed, even if you already have put your makeup on, so literally, I can mist this product over my makeup. And it’s smear-free.
And that, I think is so awesome!
This is typically the kind of product that I take with me in my bag for touch-ups if I need more protection during the day. And here, in Dubai, it is very very useful!
The 80 ml bottle is fairly compact, so it does not take up much space in my hand bag.
Of course, it is also very beach-friendly!
Generally, I always use my daily sun protective skincare every morning (Chanel or Clarins) after my moisturizer and before my makeup, and I use the Sun Visor during the day, but clearly, if I go on vacation, I will just bring this one on its own!
I sprayed 1 or 2 times on my face without being too close and let the product dry on the skin (which only takes a few seconds). Since I just use a small amount of product every time I’m using it, I think the product will probably last a long time.
The Goldfaden MD Sun Visor can be found on the very tempting Space NK website for 40 pounds (about 250 AED) or on Amazon for 45 US Dollars.
Ouch, yes, innovation has a price!
I get lucky on this one, because my dear friend Liouaa, from the blog Jam The Glam, brought it back this ‘precious’ from London, thanks sis!:)
Goldfaden MD, what is it?
I’ll be honest, I had never heard of the brand Goldfaden MD before I found this product. (for those of you who are interested, I came across this product through a video of You-tuber Amelia Liana) (yes, I know, a bit of a princess) (but she is always reviewing awesome products, so it’s OK)
So Goldfaden MD is an American brand, specifically from Florida, which was founded by a dermatologist , Dr. Goldfaden (still in charge).
There are very few products in the brand (13), and it is a relatively young brand (2012, although I’m not too sure, perhaps it’s just the date of the re-packaging of the products, I had a lot of trouble finding information about the history of this brand).
But one thing that I know is that it is a family company. It is quite rare, so it deserves to be mentioned!
It is also considered as a brand of dermatological products inspired by nature. The founders are focused on results on the skin, while keeping in mind the benefits of and respecting nature.
Here is a video of the founder, who presents his brand (better than me obviously!):
Of course, you can learn more by checking out the Goldfaden MD website, but for me, I must say that this brand seems very interesting.
A little close-up on the formula:
I just want to pick one of the ingredients in this formula, the titanium oxide, which is a mineral and natural UV filter, but which is also a nano-particle.
I am aware that this is an ingredient that is often accused of toxicity and which could also be carcinogenic (but nothing is proven yet), especially in its micronized form (this is the case in this formula and one of the reasons why the texture is so fine, and it also avoids the “white mask” effect on the skin).
It’s a ‘catch 22’ scenario in such cases, if it is toxic, what to choose: lung cancer or skin cancer? Just need to be careful not to breathe it in…
Living in Dubai, sunscreen seems totally essential to me, so I had to choose a side (in a manner of speaking…).
If you want to know more about this subject, you can read this very interesting article that explains the doubts concerning titanium dioxide:
