Macadamia Flawless, is it really flawless?

Macadamia Flawless is it really flawless?

Searching for new OPI nail polishes (yes, again)(I know, I need help), I ran into a distributor of professional products (cosmetic and hairdressing), who not only sell OPI, but also lots of great hair products.

The shop in question is Nazih in Dubai, which is a famous distributor here for professionals (hair salons and beauty salons mostly) aka Wonderland (at least, for me, it is).
The first brand that caught my eye when I entered the shop is the brand Macadamia Natural Oil, which I’ve heard about for ages (especially via some English beauty bloggers’s Youtube channels). This brand has apparently a very good reputation in the US and the UK.

So, Macadamia Natural Oil is an American brand, mostly distributed in hair salons, with a relatively short range (less than a dozen products) and specializes in the treatment of damaged hair.
The entire range is based on macadamia oil and argan oil.
These two oils are very interesting for damaged hair because they not only have repairing but also protective powers (including an anti-UV and frankly, summer is early this year in UAE and I just did a color to my hair, so an anti-UV protection seems to be a very good idea).

I had been testing a sample of their famous Healing Oil Treatment for damaged hair, which is also based on macadamia and argan oils.

It is supposed to be used as a finishing oil to put on your hair before using your hair dryer or after a blow-dry, but personally, as I have very fine hair, I prefer to use it as an oil bath before my shampoo (usually, I actually sleep with it).
I had found it rather effective to soften and smooth my hair but also very nice to use because this product smells so good: a very warm and a little spicy kind of scent that I love!

But when I went to Nazih, the product that caught my attention was Macadamia Flawless, claiming to be a “cleansing conditioner”, even better, a 6-in-1 hair treatment.

You will probably see lots of new products like this one in the future, because the Americans just invented a new trend, and it’s called the “co-washing“, which is basically the fact to wash your hair with a conditioner. It’s supposed to be softer for your hair, specially for dry hair.

Macadamia Flawless

Macadamia Macadamia Natural Oil Flawless, so, what is it?

It is basically a foam/conditioner that will clean, but also entirely condition your hair.

This famous 6-in-1 treatment is supposed to:
– clean
– condition
– detangle
– reduce blow-dry time
– have an anti-frizz effect
– and volumize your hair.

So basically, a shampoo + a conditioner + a serum in one single product.

You should know that I can be very serious when it comes to my hair (well, ok, when it comes to my face, my nails and everything beauty related, it’s the same) so I apply at least 3 products when I’m doing my hair (the 3 mentioned above, at least, and I can also add a mask, an oil before my shampoo, a thermal protector for blow-drying, styling products…in fact, I put tons of products on my hair).

I have fine, long and colored hair, more precisely hair with highlights (which is worse than just colored), so all of these factors added together are not great for having healthy hair.

I must say that a single product all in one, I was really skeptical about its effectiveness…

How to use Macadamia Flawless?

This product is just the easiest hair product I’ve ever used!

First you wet your hair, then you take two pumps of the product, then massage it onto your scalp.
You will have to stretch the foam onto the lengths of your hair and leave it for 3-5 minutes (roughly the duration of your shower), then you just rinse it off “et voilà”!
Simple, isn’t it?

The foam is very very creamy, not at all the texture of a shaving foam, much more “rich” and it does not really foam when you massage it, which is a little weird at first, but hey, it is indeed a “cleansing conditioner”, so it is quite logical.

So what about the result?

No doubt, the hair is very, very soft and you can feel it from the moment you rinse the product off.

To be very sincere, I cheated a little bit when I used it because my hair is really damaged (and I’m so traumatized by the idea of using just one single product)(ONE single product: NO WAY!) so I could not help myself but using the Healing Oil Treatment in spray for fine hair, that I bought the same day as Flawless…
I used it just before my blow-dry.

Healing Oil Spray

Yes, I know… nice review ! What a great beauty blogger!
More seriously, I really have very fragile hair and considering the weather (very sunny) we have here in Dubai, I did not want to take the risk.
But with a rather normal to dry hair and in normal weather conditions, I do not think adding a product is necessary. Flawless alone is enough.

So after using it, my hair was very light, easy to style and actually very smooth, without any frizz to talk about.
I was afraid that the day after my shampoo, my hair should be very flat and greasy but not at all, they remained soft and light during 3 entire days.

But, there was something weird when I used the product. A strange impression. At least, a “silicone impression” that I could feel onto my hair.

And looking more closely at the formula (which I had not done before buying, yes, well done, I know!), here is what I read:

Well, wow! The silicone (dimethicone) is in 4th position in the list, which means there is a lot in the formula…

So clearly, I have a very bad memory of products with silicone I have used on my hair. If I am limited to styling products, I have no worries but if I use shampoo (if I put them onto my scalp, mainly), I’ll have an itchy scalp in no time, and, icing on the cake, I’ll also get dandruff: yuck !
I must add that silicone is not AT ALL a repairing ingredient. For me, it is just for hiding problems: it will soften the hair for a short time, but underneath, your hair is still dry and with split ends.

Humm…

So in conclusion, I would say that Macadamia Flawless is great if you do not have much time to apply all the necessary products to treat and condition your hair (especially long like mine), but it is a product that you must rotate with other treatments with less or no silicone.
Anyway, that’s what I’ll do with this product, I will not use it every day, that’s for sure!

And about the repairing effect, I’m still very skeptical.

However, this is still an interesting product, nice concept and super easy to use.

Macadamia Flawless can be found in some hair salons, some distributors for professional beauty products (here in Dubai, you can find it in Nazih) or online.

And you, are you tempted by Macadamia Flawless?
