Get the look: Jessa from GIRLS

I’m so excited about the new season of GIRLS on HBO!

I really love all the characters, especially Hannah played by Lena Dunham who is hilarious, but my favorite really is Jessa.
She’s not the perfect friend, she can be really selfish and spontaneous, but not really in a good way! OK, no more spoilers, please!;)

Her look is so appealing to me! Her beauty especially is a true inspiration.
She is so refreshing because in a lot of american series, the main characters, especially the girls or women, always look flawless and perfect: perfect make-up, perfect hair for every occasion…
But who has the time for a perfect hair-do and a perfect make-up everyday in real life???
Well, despite the fact that I’m trying so hard, I really don’t! And I’m not sure I want to anyway.

And the thing about Jessa, is that she always looks so natural and cool! She’s really got her own style, and of course, I like the clothes she’s wearing in the series, too!

Yes I know, I know. To look cool, the best tip is to not to think too much about the things that you are wearing. You just wake up like that in the morning: you take the first clothes you find next to your bed, the first lipstick and that’s it!
Back to real life however, I’m sure that just doesn’t happen. For the people that say “Yes, it does happen like that for me”, 3 words: “I hate you”. So much. I simply prefer to think that you don’t exist.

And anyway I mean, if I take the first clothes next to my bed (there aren’t any next to my bed for starters) and the first lipstick I found, I would NEVER get anything close to this result, EVER:

So if you want to get the look of Jessa, here are some little tips to look as cool as Jessa/ Jemima Kirke in GIRLS:

And if you like, while you’re reading, listen to a track from GIRLS (did I mention that the music in GIRLS is just so good?):

First thing: the hair.

Of course, if you’ve got very long hair, it’s of course better. But even with a shoulder-length, it could work.
I think the secret for her perfects boho-chic hair styles is that they seems to be very quick and easy to do. And I think, in a way, that they’re actually are!

OK, maybe not the last one!

Her hair is never straight, she seems to just has let them dry naturally, so they can be a little wavy sometimes and if you’re notice: they’re always squeaky clean! Shiny, healthy, with a perfect and very natural color!

So my personal advice would be: always use very good hair treatment for a soft and nourished hair and stay away for the hair-dryer, the flat irons and the hair-styling products as much as you can! And if you go for a hair color: natural has to be your mantra.

My favorite hair treatments for a Jessa natural and cool hair:

Seanik Solid Shampoo Lush

Big conditionner Lush

R&B leave-in moisturizer

I really love these 3 products from Lush!

The first one, Seanik is a solid shampoo that gives your hair a lot of volume it’s also very clarifying, like a “detox” shampoo. Perfect for the squeaky clean and shiny effect! It contains some sea-salt and some seaweed which is what gives your hair a lot of volume.
To use it, it’s very simple: I wet it, rub it into my hands, and apply the foam I obtain directly on my hair. I massage my scalp with it and I rinse it et voilà!

The second one, Big conditioner, is a very moisturising conditioner but it will also help giving volume to your hair and it’s a really light conditioner.
To use it, I just remove the excess of water from my hair, and just smooth it out onto my hair lengths before gently detangling with my Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash brush. This brush makes it so easy to do, believe me!
I leave it 1 or 2 minutes and then rinse it off.

For the last one, R&B leave-in moisturiser, I first remove all the excess of water with a towel and I just take a very very small amount and I apply it on the length of my hair. Don’t take use too much product, a drop is enough! And the best part is that all the products smell so good, especially this last one! It has some jasmine and coconut oil in it, it’s just heaven!

All these products are available on Lush website.

For the hair-do, it’s all about braids and messy buns.

I’m not very good for tutorials but if you want to learn how to do very beautiful braids, I really recommend a French blog called “Les mercredis de Daphné“. Ok, all is in french but you can still watch the gestures!

An example for the braid hair do:

8- La Coiffe en Tresse #3 / Les Mercredis de… by LesMercredisdeDaphne

I learnt to do my own braids and hair-dos thanks to Daphné. She gives lessons in Paris and it was very very useful!

But for Jessa inspired hair-dos and buns, my advice would be: keep it messy!
Leave some straggling locks when you do a bun, it does not have to be so strict.

Generally speaking, you don’t want to look as if you spent a lot of time doing your hair: keep it very simple.

Then, the make-up:

She always looks so fresh, perfect and natural but sometimes, she just goes wild with a very beautiful vamp-red lipstick! And it completely changes her face.

So my advice would be to go very light with the face make-up: a good BB cream (I love the one from Clinique),  a little bit of concealer if you need to hide some dark-circles and blemishes (my advise for eye concealer here), a touch of blush ( I love the Benefit Benetint for a very natural flush), just a tiny bit of mascara and if you want to go for a more dramatic look, choose to wear a very red or very dark lipstick. It’s a good tip, because it’s very easy and the lipstick will play the main part of the make-up, so it’s a quick and gorgeous look.

Jessa always goes for statement lipsticks.
A very vampy dark brown-red color, like the MAC Film Noir, for example:

But she can also chooses to wear a very bright red, especially for going out, and it looks so beautiful and retro-chic on her:

For this look, she used a Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the shade Certainly Red, a very beautiful and classical blue-tone red:

I personally don’t own this one, so I generally pick my MAC Russian Red, and it really does the job!

For those who may not know Jessa, or those who do, a few flashbacks from Season 2:

And you, do you watch GIRLS and who is your favorite character?
